Photographs from my trip to Peru in April 2011. The Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and Cusco.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas or Urubamba Valley is a valley in the Andes of Peru, close to the Inca capital of Cusco and below the ancient sacred city of Machu Picchu. It is both majestic and friendly.
The Incas started building Machu Picchu around AD 1400 but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Fortunately, it was never found by the Spanish and was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911.
Cusco is a gorgeous and friendly city. It was the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO
A selection of wide angle vistas of the region along with some videos.
